United States Navy Physical Readiness Test

US Navy aptitude test

AN Physical Readiness Testalso known as Physical Fitness Assessmentor PFA, is conducted by the United States Navy To determine the Physical aptitude of its sailors.

pattern

The Physical Fitness Assessment consists of a Body Composition Assessment (BCA) and a Physical Readiness Test (PRT), which includes a timed cardiovascular event consisting of 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of running/treadmill or 500 yards (460 m) of swimming (or alternative cardio consisting of 12 minutes on a stationary bike), timed push-ups and timed sit-ups.

PFA scores from lowest to highest are fail, evidential, satisfactory, good, excellent, excellent, and maximum, with prefixes of low, medium, and high, providing greater granularity per NAVADMIN 061/16.

Scores for cardio (time or calories), push-ups (number completed in two minutes), and sit-ups (number completed in two minutes) are determined by age, gender, and time (for running and swimming) or calories (for stationary bike).

Other DoD branches have similar standards.

Changes planned for 2020

In 2020, sit-ups were replaced with a plank exercise. Additionally, a rowing machine option has been added to the aerobics test.

elite units

Most branches of the US military use tests modified and enhanced from regular physical endurance and performance tests as minimum requirements for candidates for special or elite programs. Some of these programs are STAMP, SWCC, navy diver, EODand another Special Operations Forces. These tests often include extra components so that running, swimming, and push-ups are evaluated, in addition to sit-ups, push-ups, and the cardiovascular part. In some cases, push-up and stroke techniques may be specific to a particular group, including “diver (triceps)” push-ups, “combat side swim” strokes done in full uniform with boots by SEAL and SWCC candidates, and Strictly monitored pull-up. Within these communities, enhanced testing can be performed in lieu of regular testing, deriving and reporting the necessary data for the service’s minimum requirements and maintaining additional data, such as swim and pull-up data, to meet the requirements of your special program.

deaths

In 2019, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old woman died from the physical exertion of physical tests.
