The Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology is a series of peer reviewed scientific magazines covering the fields of photochemistry and photobiologypublished by Elsevier. It was originally created in 1972 and divided into Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry and Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology in 1987. A third title; Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology C: Photochemistry Reviewswas created in 2000 and is the official newspaper of Japanese Association of Photochemistry.

History

The Journal of Photochemistry was founded in 1972 under the foundation boss Editor Richard P Wayne. Originally published quarterly, in 1987 the frequency increased to monthly.

In 1986, the 38th Council of the American Society for Photobiology (ASP) established a commission to investigate the proposal that the European Society of Photobiology (ESP) share the functioning of the official journal of the ASP, Photochemistry and Photobiology. In 1987, financial and contractual problems prevented the deal, and instead, ESP contracted with Elsevierleading to the restructuring of Journal of Photochemistry in two separate newspapers: the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistrycontinuing with Richard P. Wayne and covering photochemistry and the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology under the founding editor Giulio Joricovering photobiology.

The Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology C: Photochemistry Reviews was first published in 2000 with Akira Fujishima as founding editor-in-chief. When the magazine was created, it intended to go from two annual issues to four, an objective achieved and maintained since 2003.
