Mason Greenwood won’t have to wait long to make Barcelona regret reportedly cooling their interest if he completes a summer switch to Valencia. The Manchester United forward is widely expected to leave permanently in the coming weeks and could land at the Mestalla after making an impact in Spain last season.

Greenwood is among the players who United are set to cash in on this summer as INEOS look to raise funds to stay in line with FFP and PSR.

The Red Devils are said to have a budget of around £50m, emphasising the need for somewhat of a clearout if they are to back Erik ten Hag sufficiently.

Greenwood represents one of the club’s most valuable assets alongside Casemiro and Jadon Sancho ahead of the European transfer window opening on July 1.

The 22-year-old resumed his career on loan at Getafe following a deadline-day switch last summer, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances.

He hasn’t played for United since January 2022, before he was arrested and later charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour, all of which he denied.

In February 2023, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence that had come to light.

Following a six-month internal investigation, United decided to help Greenwood continue his career elsewhere. He will likely leave permanently this summer.

His displays in La Liga last season reportedly sparked interest from a host of European heavyweights, including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli.

According to the Mirror, Valencia are also concrete suitors and have submitted a £25million bid for Greenwood, who would prefer to remain in Spain.

United are claimed to want £40m to part ways with Greenwood this summer, so there is a compromise to be found if Valencia are to be successful in their pursuit.

Barcelona have reportedly bowed out of the running for the England international, though, boosting their La Liga rivals’ hopes of striking a deal.

And Greenwood might make the Blaugrana regret the decision at the earliest possible opportunity if he joins Valencia.

That’s because Valencia will start their La Liga season by hosting Hansi Flick’s Barcelona at the Mestalla.

Valencia also travel to Atletico Madrid after games against Celta Vigo, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal.

But Greenwood’s future remains up in the air, and a United stay hasn’t yet been ruled out if their demands aren’t met.
