The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (FHERIS) is a department of the Irish government. It is responsible for the further and higher education, research, innovation and science policy in Ireland. It was established in July 2011 and is responsible for the implementation of the Irish Government’s strategy for further and higher education, research, innovation and science. The department works in partnership with the Higher Education Authority, the Irish Research Council, the Irish Universities Association, the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation and other stakeholders to develop and implement policies and programmes to support the Irish higher education, research, innovation and science system. The Department also works to promote Ireland as a research and innovation hub, and to ensure that Ireland’s research and innovation system is internationally competitive.
